Agriculture is the leading economic sector, with specialised industrial-crop zones supplying an important source of export goods. To improve their livelihoods, local residents also raise livestock and poultry, applying the integrated garden–pond–livestock pen (VAC) model to good effect.

The climate of Hưng Phước Commune is typically tropical monsoon, with two distinct seasons. The rainy season lasts from May to November, with average annual rainfall of 2,045–2,315 mm. The average temperature is about 26.2°C, creating favourable conditions for agricultural production. Natural water sources include the Măng River, which flows along the boundary with Cambodia, the two-branch stream in Phước Tiến Hamlet and the Bù Tam irrigation dam, ensuring water for irrigation and daily use.

The land of Hưng Phước has passed through many historical vicissitudes. In the period 1972–1973 the area was known as Tân Xa Kiệm and formed part of Bình Phước Province. The place name Hưng Phước officially appeared in 1972. The area still preserves many historical sites associated with resounding feats of arms in the struggle for national liberation, such as the end point of the Hồ Chí Minh Trail, the K23 Military Medical Station and the 10-Mẫu Production Area.

After 30 April 1975, Hưng Phước belonged to Bù Đốp District, Bình Thủ Province, and subsequently to Phước Long District and Lộc Ninh District of Sông Bé Province. In February 2003, under Government Decree No. 17/2003/NĐ-CP, Bù Đốp District was re-established and Hưng Phước Commune came formally under Bù Đốp District, Bình Phước Province, as it remains today.
Hưng Phước Commune enjoys a major transport advantage, lying on Provincial Road ĐT 759B, which links the Hoàng Diệu International Border Gate with the Lộc Tấn junction and onward to Hồ Chí Minh City. This route is an important driver for economic development, expanded trade and investment attraction. The inter-hamlet road network has also been built in a coordinated manner, facilitating travel and the transport of goods.
With its strategic location, Hưng Phước is one of the important transport, economic, cultural and social hubs between Việt Nam and Cambodia. This creates many opportunities to develop border-trade economic activities and tourism.
